A love letter to the practice that quietly holds everything together.
Remember when you were a kid and having a diary felt magical? You’d scribble about

your day, your dreams, and the person you were secretly crushing on. It was simple, honest, and grounding.
Somewhere along the way, journalling became “uncool,” or something only overly emotional people did. But here’s the beautiful truth: journalling is making a comeback, and for good reason. More adults than ever are turning to it as a form of self-care, and research continues to show how powerful it is for stress relief, emotional clarity, and overall wellbeing.
I’ve been journalling consistently for almost a decade, and it’s become one of the most supportive daily rituals in my life. When I skip too many days, I feel it. My mind feels cluttered, my emotions feel heavier, and I’m less grounded. Journalling has genuinely changed my life, and I want to share why it might change yours too.
1. It helps you declutter your mind and understand your emotions.
We spend so much time nurturing our relationships with others that we often forget to nurture the relationship we have with ourselves. Journalling gives you space to slow down, notice what you’re feeling, and understand what’s actually going on beneath the surface. Writing things out helps you see patterns, recognize your triggers, and get clearer on what genuinely lights you up.
2. It helps you feel better... sometimes instantly.
You know that feeling after you vent to a friend and suddenly everything feels lighter? Journalling can create that same release. It’s like having a conversation with yourself where you can express, process, and make sense of your thoughts. And sometimes, seeing your thoughts on paper helps you realize they’re not as overwhelming as they felt in your head.
3. Journalling before bed can improve your sleep.
Ending your day with gratitude or quiet reflection can shift your nervous system out of stress mode and into rest mode. Even on the hardest days, there’s always something small to appreciate… a warm meal, a kind moment, a breath of fresh air. This simple practice can help you unwind, soften your thoughts, and ease into deeper sleep.
4. Journalling in the morning sets the tone for your day.
There’s something really grounding about starting your morning with intention rather than distraction. Before the to-do lists, the notifications, and the noise of the day take over, journalling gives you a few quiet minutes to check in with yourself. What do you need today? What are you calling in? It’s a small act of self-leadership that can shift everything.
5. It strengthens your connection with yourself.
Journalling is a beautiful way to set intentions, reflect on your goals, and check in with how you’re truly feeling. It helps you notice what drains you, what supports you, and what needs to shift so you can feel more aligned with the life you’re creating.
You don’t need anything fancy. Grab a notebook you love (or one from the dollar store!) and a pen that feels good in your hand. If you prefer digital journalling, apps like Momento make it easy to capture your thoughts on the go.
Start with one simple question:
“How and what am I feeling right now?”
Let your thoughts flow from there. Don’t hold back, be honest. This journal is only for you.

Before working with Sara I struggled with staying motivated and making time in my busy schedule for cooking for myself.
