To maintain a healthy life and achieving optimal health, it is important to be smart about our food choices! What do I mean about that?
Well...instead of cutting out all the yummy food you enjoy, and depriving yourself of it, the best way to developing a healthy relationship with food is a well balanced diet of high quality nutrient dense foods and sometimes the lower quality more enjoyable foods!
So where do we start? First, an easy step is to simply become more aware of your meals and ask yourself, “Are my meals magical?”
A Magical plate contains:
1/3 Veggies (dark leafy greens, broccoli, cucumber, asparagus etc)
1/3 High quality protein (vegan or animal source)
/3 Nutrient dense starchy veggies or grains (sweet potatoes, brown rice, pasta etc)
If your meals are not currently looking like the magic plate, notice which category is the highest and adjust by following the Magic Plate/Bowl as an easy tool to guide you in making each of your meals more balanced!
When eating a balanced diet, it will help improve your overall health, weight management, more energy and ensure that you are getting enough essential nutrients to stay healthy, strong & energized.
To break it all down, let's separate each of the items in this bowl into the categories of the Magic Plate.
1/3 Veggies: baby spinach, sauté mushrooms, broccoli, & cauliflower
1/3 High Quality Protein: Chicken Breast
1/3 Starchy Carbs: Brown rice, sweet potato
1-3 TBSP High Quality Fats: Guacamole (avocados are super great for healthy fats), Hummus and pumpkins.
